Salonpas Let’s Move — Anya Geraldine Viral Campaign

Summary

In 2021 we launched Salonpas Jet Spray on a small budget, with one brief: make it famous. So we hid the brand and handed people a mystery to solve. One of Indonesia’s first stealth-marketing campaigns.

Brand’s challenge

To younger Indonesians, Salonpas lived in one fixed slot: the balm in a parent’s medicine drawer. You don’t announce your way out of a slot like that, because announcements get filed under ‘ad’ and ignored. The problem was the mental category, not the message.

The idea

We didn’t launch a product. We opened a loop. One unbranded line, “Anya Geraldine is hiring a sports partner,” left a question the feed couldn’t leave alone, and people chased the answer through memes, clues, and each other. By the time Salonpas Jet Spray was revealed, the audience had spent days building the story, so they owned it. And a brand people feel they discovered gets trusted in a way an announced one never will.

The execution

01

Unbranded Social Hook

The opening line carried no brand, because a brand would have closed the loop before it opened. An open question is the one thing a scrolling mind struggles to scroll past.

03

Meme and Video Content

Memes and conspiracy-style storytelling let people play with the mystery, and participation is what turns a campaign into a moment.

02

Influencer Narrative Trail

Clues arrived through influencers and everyday chatter, never from us. People trust a conclusion they reach for themselves over one they are handed.

04

Reveal and PR Amplification

The reveal paid off days of speculation and handed the story to the press, who carried it further than any media buy could.
